Once they confront each other, Takano and Ritsu's high school misunderstanding from their past becomes clear. Even so, the name of the unknown senpai remained a mystery to Onodera, thus leading him to search through the books that Masamune would often borrow so he could see the book record cards. He grew up with a love for literature so at first he wanted to work in a literature company and was surprised when he ended up working at a manga company but does seem to grow somewhat interested in shojo manga, though he does not always understand some of the tropes. Sometime after he begins working at the publishing house, he finds out that a new editor has been assigned to the team. These novels also include mini-comics. Ritsu was touched by the admission, although he was still embarrassed about how he had given a false name to his first love in high school.

During this time, they each begin to realize that they must really be in love with each other.

In the anime, when Ritsu moves into his new apartment because he wished to start completely fresh in life alongside his new job, he finds out that Masamune is his neighbor. While taking the gifts, he brings her to a taxi. She says that she doesn't believe she is in any position to judge him and simply wishes for him to be happy - also telling him about "the face" he only makes with Takano.
Yokozawa confirms this suspicion and Onodera realizes that Yokozawa doesn’t like him because he is protecting Takano.

They broke up due to a misunderstanding and Ritsu disappearing to study abroad in England. When Takano realized this, he scolded Yokozawa for his actions. He brought up how they had an agreement that, following them sleeping together, that nothing more than a friendship was to be between them. Three years later, Saga and Ritsu meet again by both reaching for the same book. After a few words with Takano while waiting for the rain to lighten up, Takano says that he had tried to find him when they were in high school.

Saga asks if that was what Ritsu wanted to him to do and, after a moment, kisses Ritsu. Although he had a feeling that he missed something very important, Takano is unable to get Ritsu to repeat himself.

He then looked for someone to replace Ritsu's for a brief period, but as he thought, Ritsu was the only one he could ever love. Yokozawa vows that he will always be there for Takano, helping him back on his feet again.

We all know they're gonna get together in the end, and Ritsu's inability to confess properly and Takano's unrelenting rushing is starting to wear me down. Ritsu's growing romantic feelings are best demonstrated when he and Masamune are intimately together; originally Masamune would make love to Ritsu but in recent chapters, Ritsu has shown intimate romantic affection towards Masamune. Takano comes from a moderately wealthy family.
He is tall, like most of the male characters in the series. Takano feeling he missed Ritsu say something important - his confession.Though Takano and Ritsu get into many arguments about the past and work situations, usually because Ritsu won't hesitate to talk back to him, Takano deeply cares for Ritsu and is desperate not to lose him again. Also, Haitani goes on to seduce the woman that Takano had been dating at the time and caused the two to break up. On one occassion, he had even shoved Ritsu against the wall in an attempt to get him to stay away from Takano.
