The action, when it did happen, borrowed heavily from spaghetti westerns, complete with copious, but unrealistic, blood spillage.I did like the look and setting.
I think I presumed that anything from the 70s would be, or that the title gave it a spaghetti western feel to it. The Santee family---Will, his mother, and his younger sister---join the wagon train under a false surname. However, there wasn't much of a revisionist element to it. Then the gang that shot Santee's son shows up. The shoot-out at the…Ford murders my favourite cowboy - Robert J Wilke - early in the film so it was hard to maintain interest after that.If this movie had an EKG reading it would hum along nicely. They have been forced out of town after town because of a terrible thing a family member did. An interestingly staged denouement also contributes to this getting an extra half-star or so.Would like to say more about the shot-on-video aesthetic here, but the truth is that at least on the…Bog standard Glen Ford western. the sound mixing is awful, the music is annoying, and the characters are so one-dimensional, shallow, and inhuman that nothing they say is believable. ?Thought I'd make an early start on my wild west summer challenge with my revisionist western. Then the gang that shot Santee's son shows up.
Not outstanding but not anywhere near bad, just very done before, even in its time.Santee is an endearingly ridiculous revisionist western that follows a US Marshal, played by Glenn Ford, who turns bounty hunter so he can legally murder people to help cope with sadness stemming from the death of his son.
A few months later, Santee breaks out after narrowly escaping an attempt on his life. When he invites the son of a criminal he shot down to stay with him, the kid gets a bead on the killers and goes off himself. This is an attempt to chronicle every single Western film ever made - be…Spaghetti, Euro, American, Mexican, Latin, Ostern, Asian, Comedy, Horror, Acid, Animation, Birth of Cinema, Weird, and more...My collection of movies to create Grindhouse nightsAn ongoing list of films awaiting a Blu-ray release.Just putting a list together of all the films included in Mill Creek Entertainment's "Drive-In Cult Cinema Classic 200 Features"…My physical library’s got a handful of burns & dupes, but is made up predominantly of the genuine, pre-recorded article: Blu-Ray,…An Inspector Calls (1954) The Siege Of Sidney Street…There are already a handful of good lists about SoV horror films here on Letterboxd, but I wanted to start… One day he kills a crook and then takes in his son, who swears vengeance upon his adopted father.
"The great gift of human beings is that we have the power of empathy." Instead, however, Jody discovers that Santee is a good and loving man, tormented by the death of his young son at the hands of another outlaw gang. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
wild fr.the epitome of the a lazy, tired western. like fr? Santee - Der blutige Pfad der Rache
Tucked away in a “B-Movie Blast” collection, Santee is an interesting premise which is confusingly constructed.
The bounty hunter is happy with his new charge and so retires to resume his previous profession as a horse breeder. Kardit.
A bounty hunter holds dear the memory of his son who was killed by outlaws several years before. I read afterwards that it was an early film to be shot on videotape and for the most part this worked pretty well. There were some fantastic landscape shots. and there’s a father son bonding montage between them???? The film is long stretches of people riding horses across various types of terrain, seemingly for no reason other than to perhaps give the audience time to properly digest the soundtrack. Santee is framed for the cop's murder and jailed in a maximum security prison. This western chronicles their adventures together.

A man and his family return home to see his ailing mother only to find out that she has been overcome by black magic. Jody Deakes joins up with his father after many years, just to discover that his dad is part of an outlaw gang on the run from a relentless bounty hunter named Santee. The music was somewhat quaint, but telling on the time of production. Instead, it was an old-fashioned western story with a 70s sheen to it.
