During my first range session I shot Winchester 38s (FMJ), Remington 38+P (JHP) and the Gold Dot short barrel. Appreciate all your expertise in weaponry and ammo. Due to its lightweight properties and something bad going to really happen that won’t be so pleasant. With fixed sights and a short barrel, the snubnose is a close-range weapon, which makes it a perfect candidate for concealed carry holders. For fast reloads, I carry a Quickstrip from Tuff Products. Prime members enjoy FREE Delivery and exclusive access to music, movies, TV shows, original audio series, and Kindle books. The Ruger LCRx weighs 17 ounces unloaded. Clearing an ammunition-induced stoppage with a revolver is as simple as pressing the trigger again. The .357 Magnum round is not new either. The sweet spots for the .357 Magnum are 125- and 158-grain bullet weights.I can hear what you're thinking: I can carry and get more bullets downrange with a 9mm with less recoil and better shot recovery. Reports of their death have been greatly exaggerated.I would tell anyone wondering why revolvers are still popular to take a look at the list of striker-fired semi-automatic pistols that have had recent recalls; it’s a very long list of some of the most respected firearm manufacturers in the world. If you own a semi-automatic pistol, the company that made it has probably had a recall or “upgrade” offered for one or more of their models, even if your model wasn’t one one of them. This isn’t even a complete list, but some of the noteworthy companies (some well known for reliability) are…I always have a couple of wheel gun with me. You can fix it with ammo selection, as you have done, or you can alter the sights.Justin had a similar problem with his Pro, and had to file down the front sight to improve things. First, this five-shot revolver is chambered in .357 Magnum… Just curious on anyones thoughts? For the Model 360, S&W put together a list of many frequently requested features. Thank you.Thank you Justin and I really appreciate your page. Most are even able to fit in pocket-sized holsters to give maximum concealability. The .357 Magnum was a different story altogether: 14 of the 20 loads met FBI standards with 5 out of 5 expansion, and 9 of those loads gave the recommended 150% expanded diameter. I also like the idea of being able to shoot repeatedly through a pocket if the need comes about. Learned a lot about ammo from your article. See his blog here for details: Mike, thanks for the info. I’m embarrassed to write the expletive phrases that spewed from my mouth the first time I fired .357 Magnum loads through a lightweight snubnose. This side seems to have the most acceptance, and I don’t mean to suggest that this bit of conventional wisdom didn’t come from somewhere. The holster’s open-top design allows fast access to the revolver. I can guarantee that I’d stick to .38 Special, and wouldn’t bother with testing .357s. I find that most of the small .357s are better served with .38 Special ammunition than they are with .357 Magnums. Although a concealable N-frame is almost an oxymoron, with the correct holster — I use a Galco Combat Master holster — the 327 is easy on the hip. A classic example of this is its rimfire .22 Magnum Snub, a five-shot .22 Magnum revolver that measures a scant 4.6 inches in overall length and weighs only 5.9 ounces. Snubnose revolvers are small and easy to place in alternate positions such as ankle holsters, and they are often chosen as a reliable and powerful back-up gun for defensive work. I’m simply able to do better work with .38+P in the small frame guns I carry, so that’s what I use for defense. In most cases magnum ammunition in a small revolver is uncontrollable and unnecessarily loud. At 5 feet, the .357 Magnum round is formidable even though the round is plenty lethal out to ranges that tax the abilities of a snubnose revolver. (hog) I carry 3″ .38 and 2.5″ .357 mostly. I am a man who can appreciate a little nuance and I generally shy away from generalizations, so here are my thoughts. The first side of this debate says you cannot carry magnum ammunition in a revolver. I think the thicker and rougher VZ grips were a huge part of that, and the 3″ tube helped as well. As much as I like the .357 and the performance it offers, I have to be honest with myself and admit that I cannot control it in rapid fire as well as I control the .38 Special. Just found out that Speer has discontinued the ammo. Justin says: May 7, 2017 at 12:42 pm Thanks for commenting! Stout is a polite way to refer to the recoil. The Gold Dots for short barrel shot consistently low by 3-4 inches. They can also be slightly longer, to accommodate the longer cylinder that’s required for .357 Mag. That perfomance is found in the Magnum too, but at far greater recoil and cost. Even though Justin prefers .357 Magnum ammo in his guns, I think he will readily admit that it takes more work to be proficient with this powerful fodder. No ifs, ands, or buts.

As you can tell from my name here, I am a fan of the .45 ACP, specifically in a 1911. They’re a dream to carry, but I just don’t enjoy shooting them like the steel guns. S&W .357 Magnum Snub Nose Need to Know. With lighter .38 Special loads, the recoil is tolerable. One of my favorite .357 Magnum snubbies is the S&W Model 327. I’m not saying it can’t be done, only that it usually takes a dedicated effort to honestly control a small-frame gun loaded with .357 ammo.I don’t know what feature(s) attracted you to the Taurus 605 Poly over other guns. I tend to come down on this side…mostly.

Thank you for your patience. Glad to have you here, and we’re happy you enjoyed the article. Won’t get in a hurry to purchase a conceal weapon as both of you’s have suggested. Thank you! I tend to come down on this side…mostly.

ThanksMost folks are thinking airlights like the 340 when talking about uncontrollable.
