Channeling a certain Mr. Buckley, finale 'My Heart' strips things back to just a vocal and reverbed guitar to give listeners a truly intimate moment of contemplation. By.
My copy of this sounds totally fine. Ex:Re Visually is everything ok, my record is perfectly flat, and the most important, it sounds very well. Other than the physical quality of the record, the album is great and if you're a fan of daughter you'll most likely love it. On the face of it, this first solo collection from Elena Tonra doesnât represent much of a reinvention.
It works out to just £1 per week, to receive our next 6 issues, our 15-year anniversary zine, access to our digital editions, the L&Q brass pin, exclusive playlists, the L&Q bookmark and loads of other extras. that's been reported on the other pressings. Does anyone know how many pressings this was limited to? Cutting and haunting lyrics are layered over cathartic steady beats; vulnerability expressed within the security of comforting musical composition. referencing Ex:Re, LP, Album, Ltd, Blu + CD, EP, Ltd, 4AD0132LP, 4AD0132CDP my copy isn't great at all. 4AD – November 30th. Best known for fronting indie-giants, Daughter, the LP was recorded in the summer and early autumn of this year, and appears somewhat out of the blue, following its stunning, pulsating lead single ‘Romance’.
âThe Dazzlerâ hints at trip hop, with languid, jazzy drums and low-key, distorted guitar that suggests Tonra might have been listening to a fair bit of Elsewhere, âLiarâ and âI Canât Keep Youâ simmer with low-level tension and you realise that, particularly on the former track, as much is being said with the silences as with voice or instrument. Ex:Re – Ex:Re // Album Review. Ain’t that the truth. The album Ex:Re addresses both – the endpoint of a process as well as the road leading towards it. '5AM', the shortest of the ten tracks, similarly balances everyday imaginary and more poetic flourishes before building to a Post Punk guitar outro. As she says herself, 'This album was made out of devastation’.
The Loves Of Your Life Hamilton Leithauser. Label: 4AD Released: 30th November 2018 Reviewer: Will Richards Rating: 4 Stars ‘Ex:Re’, the debut album from Daughter singer Elena Tonra’s new solo project of the same name, is a breakup record. Fans of Daughter will be pleased to hear Ex:Re is packed full of chilling emotion, driven by the haunting brilliance of Tonra’s unmistakable vocal and themes of heartache and drunken rants. Tracks such as ‘Liar’ have a brilliant trip-hop element, hypotonic bassline and sparse drum work combining together for great atmospheric effect.Highlight 'The Dazzler' manages to capture the depressing possibilities of hotel life, and acts as a series of aching and intimate vignettes on heartbreak.
The breakup album. Elena Tonra's solo effort is a charming and fascinating riddle that will remain unsolved for many.
'I Can't Keep You' provides a much needed pick me up, not lyrically of course, but its catchy lo-fi stomp is a breath of fresh air in a sea of sorrow.
CTRL + SPACE for auto-complete. Outside of A1, though, the rest of the record sounds great to me. Album Review Ex:Re - Ex:Re. Ex:Re – pronounced “ex-ray” – is the new solo project of Elena Tonra. Are there just currently no good options for owning this album on vinyl?
The subject of “Ex:Re” is self-explanatory: on the album Elena Tonra, performing as Ex:Re, produces an x-ray of the fractures left by a previous relationship.
