I did have to chug one while quickly running to cover during a quick mid-day thunderstorm, but other than that, we really just took our time enjoying the beer! It isn't very long but it is interesting and there is ice cold beer at the beginning and end of the tour.Hard to beat free. The Houston brewer has used the slogan "There's a new Bock in town" to advertise its beer, a clear reference to Shiner's brand. There are plenty of areas to sit around there. Everyone in Shiner, TX must have been at the event.We did a tour as soon as we arrived. They haMy wife and I visited here based on a lonely planet recommendation. I happen to go on a Saturday, so there was a big event going on outside with a beer garden, corn hole, live music, and food.
Nice outdoor area with picnic benches and washer boards/cornhole/giant jenga. My only question is why do they not ship beer to the continental United States? Last week Topo Chico announced their entry into the hard seltzer market and Spoetzl Brewery, who produces Shiner Bock beer, is adding their hat to the ring as well. We think our founder, Kosmos Spoetzl, would probably be amazed at our state-of-the art Brew House. Bit of a downer. Spoetzl Brewery, the makers of Shiner Bock since the brewery opened 110 years ago, took issue with the billboards and a sign which appeared at the festival touting a “new Bock in Shiner.” My husband and I stopped in at 4pm on a Saturday. The Brewery tour was informative and well guided, the beer was delicious and the covered seating outside was wonderful. Really cool vibe. Spoetzl Brewery, where Shiner is made, is Texas' oldest independent brewery, born on Jan. 19, 1909.
At the end we enjoyed a few samples and bought some souvenirs. On a recent trip to San Antonio from Houston, my wife made the great recommendation to detour through Shiner TX to check out the brewery.
