Hard to put down, and imminently relatable and readable. When the author is describing at one point in this book what it feels like to be drunk he talks of how it makes the unbearable banality of his world seem radiant.
Hughes called Zadie Smith and Jonathan Lethem admirers of Knausgård's. It makes it so much more interesting for the listener. These books are very honestly and intimately written about the ordinary, the everyday, but his insight, his depth of examination of his life is extraordinary.

Knausgard writes of the interior of the heart and of the mind in such a way that writers will be jealous and readers will feel comforted that they are not alone.

‘My Struggle’ is a work of brutal, harrowing honesty about a normal, irritable man’s life.I was a little obsessed with Karl Ove Knausgård a few years ago. He wrote the 550-page fifth book in eight weeks.
.
The truth is they're just boring. it is very unusual for me to finish reading a book of 430 pages and not be quite sure what I think about it.Too much time and effort on character not worth caring about Condition is very good, and likely unread.
This amount is subject to change until you make payment. An estimated one in ten Norwegians owns a copy of Knausgaard’s six-volume autobiographical novel, My Struggle. I'm on page 150 and so far not very impressed. Knausgaard is intense and utterly honest, unafraid to voice universal anxieties . Whether fiction or memoirs I don't think it matters , I stayed up til midnight when the words and the visions of his fathers death , grandmother and the bottles stayed in my mind through the night , Stark , harsh , brilliant .
would be the first to tell you that it's not Proust, yet in the Sixth Book one starts to get glimpses at what is all about, including Proustian references and about Proust.
It's a treat to own this book.
Really gripping. Knausgaard invites the idea that My Struggle can be read as a reaction to Mein Kampf— a rewriting of it.
In may ways this was life and death in slow motion, yet leaving a powerful, evocative trail. Okay, so there are definitely moments when it drags.
End of story. I'm writing this review having read only Volume One. It is interesting that this modern day author starts his long Proust-like series of novels with an exploration of the narrator's relationship with his father, just as Proust did with his relationship with his mother. These books are very honestly and intimately written about the ordinary, the everyday, but his insight, his depth of examination of his life is extraordinary. I loved his musings on teenage life.I'll avoid rating this book because for some reason, Goodreads only has all three of them rather than the first one which is the one I read. And alongside this Knausgaard deals with the huge questions of love and sex and family and, above all, death (which frames this part of the novel). ‘My Struggle’ is a work of brutal, harrowing honesty about a normal, irritable man’s life.A deeply personal reflection on the death of Knausgaard’s father, My Struggle is universal in its exploration of how we observe the world, how we interact with it, memory, grief and loss.
This amount includes seller specified domestic shipping charges as well as applicable international shipping, handling, and other fees. It's a keeper. The Norwegian writer, now living in Sweden, has been described as the 21st century’s Proust for his 3,600-page, six-book autobiographical work ‘My Struggle’ (Min Kamp). There are moments in everyone's life that make for good stories. We rarely see a dead body ; when someone dies their bodies are covered over, taken away, put in a room.
I give the book 4 stars out of 5.This man writes without hesitation.
Here's a gooI'm on page 150 and so far not very impressed. I have never ever read such beautifully written prose before.
