It was fun to watch and to think about, and the multiple timelines built around the nature of these Hosts, who can live forever and die over and over again in different roles, was fascinating.This, along with the stellar performances of Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris and many others, made it a one-of-a-kind show. After one of the more interesting storylines of the first two seasons, now we have our villain haunted by visions of his dead daughter, who he killed last season because he thought she was a Host. I miss the cowboys and the whores, the trains and the bandits. There he gives a tough guy speech to other patients and is prescribed AR therapy, where he confronts his former selves (in, admittedly, one of the better scenes of the season) and, somehow, discovers through this ordeal that he’s the Good Guy.So he sets off on a new Quest To Destroy Hosts (something Serac has mostly already achieved) and, in a post-credits scene in the finale, is killed rather abruptly by a Host version of himself.What is the point of either of these characters in Season 3? It’s not necessarily bad when a show changes, when it evolves or expands. It goes so far beyond the realm of believable that it’s just magic. Fool me once and all that.
