After closing the time loop from The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, Kyon believes he is starting the new year with a blank slate and perhaps free of the confusions of time travel. if I wasn’t already a fan of series like Haruhi (of which I did watch all of Endless Eight as it aired, lol! As December 20 comes, Kyon learns from Wanting to go back to his interesting life, Kyon activates the program and goes back in time to the Before Ryoko can finish him off, he is rescued by future counterparts of Yuki, Mikuru and himself.
