Rick Steves’ guidebook back in 2002 combined both countries in one book, and we started for a week staying at a timeshare trade (wouldn’t do that again) which required long driving days to visit points northwest of Malaga, including Ronda and the Cueva de Pileta. His mission: to empower Americans to have European trips that are fun, affordable, and culturally broadening. I used this book to help plan a 10 day trip with 8 days in Spain and two days in Morocco.

We’ve been on several Rick Steves tours and they are a nice companion. I like that he rates the attractions with stars and candidly tells you what’s worth seeing and what you can afford to skip. I intended to simply “double-check” my work but ended up learning so much more about the country I love.

Rick's publications always contain lots of useful information but in this case he does not like the Costa del Sol area (which is where we were going) so the book wasn't as helpful as we expected.

The quality of paper is somewhat better than the book about Italy. Now that I’m retired I am planning my own trips with friends and families and thought I’d give Rick Steve’s a chance.
