Storm damage caused by overnight storms, April 8, 2020CLEVELAND, Ohio — A tornado touched down in Summit County late Tuesday night, the third confirmed twister from violent storms that moved through Northeast Ohio.The National Weather Service says the tornado touched down at 11:52 p.m. near Barberton and traveled southeast for 10.1 miles toward Green. It reached peak winds of about 80 mph and a maximum width of about 100 yards and the NWS classified it as an EF-0.A tornado set down in southern Lorain and northern Medina counties.

We’ve been told by the National Weather Service office in Cleveland that they are looking at areas of Medina, Wayne, Stark and Summit (including Barberton) counties for possible tornado damage.

The tornado started near Barberton and ended near Green.

NORTHEAST OHIO (WJW) — From tornado warnings to severe thunderstorms, wicked weather moved through Northeast Ohio Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning. There was extensive damage to trees and power lines as well as numerous trees uprooted and blown down along the path.

Wind speeds reached up to 90 miles per hour. The EF-1 tornado produced maximum winds around 90 mph and was about 100 yards wide.

As of publishing of this story, these teams have found at least 11 locations where tornadoes touched down in Ohio. A weak tornado did indeed hit Summit County Sunday, dropping onto a fast food restaurant, then spinning off through a shopping center parking lot, causing mild damage and overturning a couple of cars.

According to records, the largest tornado in the Barberton area was an F5 in 1985 that caused 310 injuries and 18 deaths.
